Bible Study How and Why

Resource KJV Holy Bible/ The Expositor’s Study Bible/ Concordance/ Jimmy Swaggart/ PG. 2431 &2432

We are directed by the Word of God to study the Bible. Jesus said, in John 5:39, to “search the Scriptures…”

Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in II Timothy, said “Study(the Scriptures) to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth” (II Timothy 2:15). The only way that one can intelligently divide the Word of Truth, in other words, to know and understand sound Doctrine, is to know the Word of God.

For you to know the Bible is the single most important thing you can ever do. Consequently, you ought to make it a part of your daily life.

Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

That means that as natural food is necessary for your physical well-being, likewise, the study and understanding of the Word of God is necessary for your spiritual well-being. In other words, as much attention as you give your three meals a day, you ought to give that much attention to the Word of God, and on a daily basis. As your natural food is necessary, so must be your spiritual food.

Everything that one wants to know about God is found in the Bible. God has expended much time and energy over many years giving us His Word. He did for our benefit, as should be obvious. However, He isn’t going to inject that information into us. If we want to know God, to understand Him, and to live completely in harmony with Him, we must read the instruction book, actually to study it which is the Word of God.

When you were born as a little baby, someone poured milk into your system, and if they had not done so, you would have weakened and soon died. Nothing flourishes and grows without nourishment. And today, as a newborn (spiritually speaking), you must have nourishment if you are to stay alive spiritually, and flourish, and eventually grow into a mature person of strength and power in the Lord.

The Holy Bible is that nourishment. It is wonderfully conceived to afford both milk to the newborn, and meat to the more advanced.

Scriptures of Studying the Bible

2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV (Resource: openbible.com)
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Psalm 119:105 ESV
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Ephesians 6:11-12 ESV
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Hebrew 4:12 ESV
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart”.

(Resouce:KJV Holy Bible/ The Expositor’s Study Bible/ Concordance/ Jimmy Swaggart/ PG. 2432)
The Psalmist said, “Thy word is a Lamp unto my feet, and a Light unto my path”
In fact, the Word of God is the only true Light and the only true Lamp that’s in the world today.

Admittedly, there are some things difficult to understand, especially for one who has just given his heart to the Lord; however, if you will ask the Lord to help you understand His Word, He will surely do so. As stated you now have the Holy Spirit living in your heart and life, and He will teach you how to understand the Word if you will only ask for His help.

I love this as you can see there is great importance in studying the Bible as part of your walk with the Lord. God has given us the Bible for our benefit and for instruction on how to deal with situations and emotions in our lives. We need something more powerful than the world and its ways to direct us to righteousness and to be in a purposeful life. That is what the Lord promises when we are with Him and know Him. We still will have oppositions, trials and hard times, heavy emotions but a life with Him and knowing and understanding His Word will give us wisdom and discernment on how to handle life and the devil’s schemes. We are equipped with armor of Faith in Jesus Christ our Lord (Ephesians 6:11-13)and with the Word we have the weapon to fight the devil and his lies and attacks. I encourage to open the Bible and get started I know as stated it is hard to understand at first but I promise you if you keep daily in the Bible and Pray and ask the Lord to give you understanding and that the helper the Holy Spirt will do this and you will get Understanding and Knowledge and then you get the richness the gold I call it Wisdom! (Read the Bible on scriptures about getting Wisdom so you know how powerful it is to have in your life.) It happened to me I had no knowledge of the Bible and I for a long time kept avoiding reading it. As I continued to listen to sermons and music on a daily my soul was hungry to know more and I prayed to God to get me a Bible and to give me the understanding because I feared I would never understand it. Also I have to mention I had no money to buy a Bible it was rough times! It was a huge shift in my life that brought me to my knees and praying to the Lord. (We may start with the Lord in desperate times but we don’t stay there!) I remember telling my sister and she had told one of her co-workers my situation and the next day that co-work came with a BRAND NEW STUDY BIBLE!!!(she stated to my sister it was a Christmas gift and she never used it because she already had one)…one that had the scriptures and had in parenthesis in plain English what the scriptures meant!!… I tell you when I prayed for God to give me a Bible and to give me understanding He delivered!!! With the Bible the Lord gave I have now since read my bible often and can understand what the scriptures are saying without reading what is in parathesis pretty crazy how God hears you!! The scripture Hebrew 4:12 the part “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword” and the scripture Ephesians 6:11-12 ESV the part
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” I like to use these and say in my head or out loud when I face difficult decisions and I know my thoughts are not from the Lord to remind myself how powerful the Word of God is and how it ONLY can defeat the devil and his lies. Start reading the Bible and study it daily the more you do this you gain understanding of why Jesus died on the Cross and gain a stronger love for Him and a stronger relationship with the Lord which leads to a better mind, body, and soul. You become whole in His Word. You get understanding that gives you clarity and your purpose for you life with Him. I always say start don’t just not start at all because you don’t understand and miss out on what He has for your life. Don’t leave yourselves to be vulnerable to the devil and his schemes an lies. What do you have to lose but to gain as I always like to say! I will put down below a video I watched the other day about different versions of the Bible that will help you understand what version is best for you. They are all the same message the Word of God…as you can see my content and resources come from the ENGLISH STANDARD VERSION (ESV) and KING JAMES VERSION (KJV) Bibles. Watch this video and hope this helps you to get started reading the Bible.
