What does this mean? Well first of all it doesn’t mean like some may think which is to be scared of Him. God is of love and is a loving God. Fear of the Lord is to be afraid to be without Him and His ways. It is about approaching Him with holy reverence (feeling or attitude of deep respect, love and awe) and be in awe (feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder) of Him. We should honor Him, respect Him and all His ways (live a life to not dishonor or disrespect Him). We are to glorify and praise Him and love all that He loves and hate all that He hates. To be obedient to Him a continual submission to God in humility (to repent and admit that your ways are wrong and He is right and His ways are right) and faith (to live a life fully and completely trusting in Him). Be consistent of hatred of evil and the desire to turn away from it. We must do and be all of these things for Him above ANTYHING else in this world.
Scripture Proverbs 1:7 says
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (So, the beginning of this God-breathed road is “the fear of the LORD.” Men do not fear Him because most do not believe Him.) [KJV-Study Bible]
The fearing of the LORD brings you to a closer relationship with Him and a gaining of wisdom. This can be obtained and knowing how to properly understand and how to implement it in your life by reading His word everyday and getting in His presence by prayer, praise, and worship. Fearing the Lord is way to live a Godly life that is good that He has always intended for us because of His great love for us (Jesus Christ our Lord died on the Cross to save us paid our debt of sin and to make us renewed, whole, new creature, and redeemed us to have a relationship with our Heavenly Father). I have given some insight of what it is to fear the Lord and how to obtain understanding. I urge you to get into the Word as there are many scriptures that talk about the importance of the
fear of the Lord for our daily walk with God.
