When you learn the scriptures the Word of God you become more like Christ. You begin to grow and mature in your relationship with Him. We need this first a true deep relationship with Christ our Savior in order to reveal His Great Love for us. Once we really know how much love (recognizing Him dying on the Cross for us)He has for us and how He is so forgiving and merciful we then want to be more like Him. This is obtained by learning and studying the Word of God it grows you into a deeper connection with Christ. We then by His grace His favor He begins to correct us from our sins and our ways turning us to a righteous path. We begin to let our flesh go our own thoughts our own ways of doing things led by our flesh and wordly ways and we become new(we are made new in Him – 2 Corinthians 5:17) more like Him. This isn’t a over night thing but eventually your thoughts and the way you do things become less until no more. I’m not saying you will never sin again none of us are perfect and that you wont have problems in life but if you begin to read and meditate on the Word of God you start to be made whole a new creature and your relationship with Christ goes from that you know what Christ did on the Cross to also I know Him dying on the Cross was to save me. I trust and believe in Him dying for me, that I KNOW HIM!, and He LOVES ME! and FORGIVES ME!. By reading the Word of God everyday You begin to hear His voice and you know its Him speaking to you. You will find purpose in your life and your heart will want to chase it. You begin to want to please the Lord but actually seeing Him in your life gratitude and praise to Him becomes part of your life. Because without a doubt you will see Him changing your heart and mind being made righteous. Soon you will learn to trust and believe in Christ and the Cross having great proper faith and you will begin to know and fulfill your purpose and doing the Will of God (the great works begins). Whatever that maybe for your journey with you and the Lord. Pray and ask Him what it is for you that He wants to do and how you can do His Will and Glorify Him. Make sure when you ask Him take time to listen for His voice His direction (this is obtained by reading and meditating on the Word of God and through prayer). It could be starting a ministry, writing a book, adopting a child, starting a business, mentoring to others about the Word, starting a new career, etc. the point is our purpose in life to share the gospel the Word of God and whatever way we do that we must remember it is for His Glory and not for our glory(not for us to show off and brag about what we do for His Kingdom but give all the great praise to our Lord). All of this and more comes from reading the scriptures The Word of God (just think about that alone the Word of God the Creator, the Alpha and the Omega the Great I AM is giving us a guide to Him and how to be like Him through scripture and we should want to hear what He has to say!) which we should do everyday in our lives making it a lifestyle! (along with prayer and praise).

Let’s talk about learning scriptures and the importance of knowing the Word Of God for you to live in righteousness and live a godly life which then produces good works. I really like this scripture 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV version). There is so much you can take from this scripture and I’m going to break it down to get a better understanding. Keep in mind when I study the Word I will read the Bible and search more meanings of the scriptures. That is what I did here so a lot of this is not my writing but I share in hopes it helps anyone reading this to understand better too. If I have resources I will share and if its in my owns words I will note that as well.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

All Scripture – Word of God

Breathed out by God – The Greek word for “God-breathed” or as some translations say, “breathed out” is “theopneustos,” which means “inspired by God” or literally the very “breathe of God.”

When we talk about God-breathed, we refer literally to God’s breath — the exhale from His mouth. Being God-breathed means that a specific thing or person is directly from God.

the Greek says “all Scripture is God-breathed, “which means it is the Word of God, and, thereby,
infallible (will not fail)!

profitable – Paul, in this verse, asserts to Timothy why the Scriptures being God-inspired is profitable for him and for us too. Profitable means that it is valuable and beneficial for us. It also means that God’s Word produces a great harvest in those who believe and trust in it.

1 Timothy 4:7-8 But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

for teaching – means simply “to teach,” “to inform”

Matthew 28:20 Teaching them (means to give instruction)

Scripture is profitable for teaching. It is to be used to instruct people to know God better

all we believe, teach, and do must be based squarely on the Scriptures

for reproof – profitable for reproof or rebuke, the idea of exposing or pointing out sin.

What does reproof mean in 2 Timothy 3:16?
rebuke, chastening
Reproof—rebuke, chastening, scolding, or correction, usually in a kind manner.

What is God’s reproof?
Reproof means: conviction of sin, punishment or refutation of error. Correction means: a straightening up again, a rectification or a reformation. Instruction means: tutorage, education, training or disciplinary correction. It is translated in the KJV as chastening, chastisement, instruction or nurture.

God’s Word, along with His Spirit’s use of it, is powerful enough to convict people of their sin. Teach people God’s Word and trust Him to use it to show them the error of their ways

A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth REPROOF is prudent. ( Proverbs 15:5 )

for correction –
Literally, set right, or made straight. To make right; to rectify; to bring to the standard of truth. “Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest” (Proverbs 29).

Scripture both points out sin and offers a solution to it.

Why is correction important in the Bible?
If we do not acknowledge that we make mistakes and sometimes need to change our ways, this can have negative consequences. Proverbs 15:32 says, “Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.”

When our heavenly Father corrects us, it is for our own good in order to be a blessing to others, and never to cause us harm. With correction comes repentance, and repentance (admitting God is right and asking for forgiveness) is a blessing because it gets rid of the sin and produces life in the believer.

His correction is the evidence of his love, because he doesn’t want you to keep going the wrong direction.

(These are my words—> God’s love sometimes doesn’t feel good but in the end you see His love and He starts to change things in your life for the better. Think of it this way when your parents discipled you from doing something, saying no or taking something away you didn’t feel good about maybe you were mad or sad but as time went on you realized it was for your good and you got on a right path by their disciple (there love for you not to harm you). Well that is our Heavenly Father is like He corrects you with love but at first it looks and feels painful but he does this to better you and to have a full life it’s not to harm you (Jeremiah 29:11).

for training in righteousness – righteousness, means living in right relationship with God, other people, and all creation. We act with righteousness when we live justly, honestly, and faithfully according to God’s instruction

Everything that a Christian does is to be done for the Lord; and so, All Christians are to be training in righteousness to have all the tools and skills for doing good work!

From Scripture we learn what is true, what is wrong, how to correct wrong, and how to apply truth.

presents the Bible as the only guide for such instruction

(This is the website I got this from #’s 1-9 I felt it gave a good explanation for training in righteousness this is not of any association to me and my website just thought i would share to help anyone reading this to better understand)

1-Everything that a Christian does is to be done for the Lord; and so, All Christians are to be training in righteousness to have all the tools and skills for doing good work!

2-From Scripture we learn what is true, what is wrong, how to correct wrong, and how to apply truth.
Scripture is profitable for training in righteousness

3-The moment someone places their faith in Christ as their savior from sin, God removes his sin and imputes the righteousness of Christ onto him.

4-“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” 2 Corinthians 5:21.

5-Christ took our sin on himself and experienced the consequences – death. We have taken Christ’s righteousness on ourselves and also experience the consequences: life. Eternal life.

6-But when it comes to living righteously, that is something quite different from our position in Christ. Living a righteous life is the result of learned behavior. It does not come naturally for us.

7-Living righteously in the Bible refers to the practice of relating to God and others righteously, fairly, and justly. God expects us to live righteously because we have been made righteous in Christ. Consequently, righteous living is the logical conclusion of our faith in Christ and our consequent position in Christ.

8-“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3

9-In this passage, our “calling” refers to our position in Christ as righteous saints. But “live a life worthy of the calling” refers to our need to live righteously in our daily lives.

that the man of God may be complete – refers to maturity

What does it mean to be complete in God?

Complete means to be full, to be whole. Being complete in Jesus is to be made whole, soul, mind and body, filled with the satisfying Christ. Jesus came for the whole person. To be complete is to have everything needed, no lack.

What does the man of God may be complete equipped for every good work mean?
The Scriptures will make you “complete, equipped for every good work.” To be complete (GK: artios) meant that you were thoroughly trained, qualified and competent, capable and fit for the task.

Timothy’s study and application of Scripture would make him a mature Christian man who could successfully lead other believers.

And you are complete in Him (the satisfaction of every spiritual want is found in Christ, made possible by the Cross) Colossians 2:9

equipped for every good work
Good works are simply actions that are good. God is the creator and definer of good

What does it mean to be equipped for every good work?
God’s word is able to equip you, the man or woman of God, for every good work. The word adequate conveys the idea of being complete and perfectly fitted for the assigned task. You are thoroughly equipped to face the tasks of life. Don’t neglect the tremendous resource that you have in God’s word

properly understands the Word, which then produces “good works” i.e., “godly lives”

Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them

What is the spiritual meaning of good works?
In Christian theology, good works, or simply works, are a person’s (exterior) actions and deeds that align with the moral teachings, emphasizing compassion, charity, kindness and adherence to biblical principles, in contrast to inner qualities such as grace or faith.

How to be equipped with the word of God?
We are equipped as we read the Bible every day. When you do, obey what the Bible tells you and do not do what the Bible forbids. You will then discover the power of God’s Word and enjoy the victories that only He can bring. As you travel life’s journey, learn the Bible well and stand in its authority in every day life.

If you have got this far we are at the end of this post and I pray this helped you to understand the importance of God’s Word and I encourage to stay in His Word everyday to experience a great loving relationship with the Lord Our Savior and to experience all His promises for you to have a full abundant life. God Bless you!

John 10:10 – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:28 – “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
