As I sat with the Lord one day in prayer one of the things I asked was for the Holy Spirit to lead me to the Word of God and I heard the words (in my mind) read the book of John read specifically about John the Baptist and felt very strongly do so. Also later that night I was watching a show the first thing they spoke about was John the Baptist… talk about confirmation from the Lord! I knew then I would take a closer look into who John the Baptist was and what He did for the Lord! As I go into more depth about John the Baptist I will reveal as best as I can if I get any information from other resources I will make note and any words from me I will note as well. Keep in mind whatever revelations I get may not be of my own I’m just here to share what I learn in hopes it will help you to understand the Word of God pick up the Bible and bring you closer to grow your relationship with Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior.
Let’s begin with who are John’s parents and how this comes about. In Luke 1:5-25 (gives the full story) John the Baptist was born to a mother named Elizabeth who was barren could not have children and old in her age and his Father Zacharias. An Angel (Gabriel) appeared to Zacharias and tells him of their child (John) what his name will be and what his birth will mean (he will prepare the introduction of the Messiah [He will tell all about Jesus]).John lived a Nazarite life (Numbers 6) which was a vow to dedicate themselves to the Lord and abstain from things like no alcohol, wine and other grape products, such as vinegar and grapes, refrain from cutting hair on their head or touch or come in contact with a dead body).
Scripture says about John The Baptists
Matthew 3:3-4 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare you the Way of the LORD make His paths straight. And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair(what he wore) and leather girdle about his lions and his meat was locusts and wild honey(this is what he ate).
John 1:6 says There was a man sent from God whose name was John
John 1:7 The same came for a witness (speaks of the Mission of the Prophet), to bear witness of the Light (spoke of Jesus and only Jesus)).
which is the Good News concerning the Lord, and that is what He did he started his ministry preaching in the wilderness (Matthew 3:1). Telling all the people about the Lord the introduction of who Jesus was and preparing the way for when the Lord would come so that people would know Him (Jesus) and to repent of their sins and believe in Him.
He was the first to do water baptisms and He did one of the greatest things done in the world which is he baptized Jesus Christ Our Lord (Mark 1:9).
He was greatly admired by the Lord for doing God’s will and he spoke very highly of John (Matthew 11:11) Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist.
John didn’t care what others thought he was only fixed on living His life for the Lord. He lived to tell people about Jesus getting them to repent of there sins and believe in our Christ Lord. This is what our purpose in life is suppose to be living for our Lord and to tell all who will listen about Him. Sharing the Word of God which is of His Son Christ Our Lord and the Cross. To come to Jesus because soon He is coming back! This is how we should live everyday for the Lord. If you ever wondered what is your purpose in life, well here it is to live for the Lord and tell all about Him. What Jesus has done dying on the Cross for our sins for our Salvation. We are made new in Christ and that He is coming soon! To repent of their sins and come to the Lord. Ask God how does He want you to bear witness and point people to the Lord sharing the Gospel the good news of the Lord? For John the Baptist it was a ministry how will He have you fulfill your purpose in doing His will and bear witness for Christ Our Lord?
